Yamaha has officially filed new trademark applications for the upcoming Yamaha R9. Yamaha confirmed the development of the new middleweight sports bike earlier this week but filed a new trademark at a later stage. Yamaha filed trademark applications for the name 'R9' across certain International markets including European countries, the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. We haven't heard what name will be filed for the Asian market. There is a rumor that YZF-R9 could be filed in the Asian market.

The Yamaha R9 will be based on the Yamaha MT-09 platform with a completely new engine. R9 could get a new 890 cc three-cylinder engine that makes 115 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. The R9 will be equipped with a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) as standard, three-mode traction control, slide control, and wheelie mitigation, offering the perfect combination of electronic rider aids for a fully-faired sportbike. It will be also equipped with a new Quick Shifter system that raises and lowers gears.

In terms of styling, the R9 is likely to sport an aggressive styling. This motorcycle is likely to be based on the MT-09 which is also yet to be launched in the Nepalese market. The Yamaha R9 will come with new advanced features that include wheel protection, traction control, anti-skid, slide control, anti-lift to control wheelies, and ABS control during curves. The bike will also include an upside-down front suspension with a new TFT display. It could resemble the larger and sharper body panels with multiple riding modes

All New YZF-R9 is expected to launch at the very end of 2021 or at the latest in the first quarter of 2022.  SO far we don’t think Yamaha would launch the YZF-R9 in Nepal anytime soon. Yamaha has said clearly they would focus on mass-market and entry-level premium bikes for a while. More details on the Yamaha YZF-R9 including the pictures are expected to be out in the next few days.
