Buzzard which is the seven-seater version of the Harrier was also unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this year and has been spotted testing several times in India. Tata Motors is planning to launch the H7X in Nepal in the first quarter of 2020. The H2X or the Hornbill subcompact SUV which will be the youngest one to adorn this design language will follow the cycle and is expected to be launched in the last quarter of calendar year 2020.

The company says that the design ethos are categorized under the 3 Ex's and 3 In's which reflects on the exterior and interior design respectively. The exterior design features have an integral part in deciding the proportions, surfaces and details of the Harrier and also of all the other upcoming models based on the IMPACT 2.0 design language while the interior aspects have helped making the cabin spacious, plush and ergonomically usable. The IMPACT design philosophy is also up to the task when talking safety and the Nexon is definitely the best example, being the first and only made-in-India cars to have bagged five stars in the Glocal NCAP crash test. Tata Motors claims that the Harrier along with upcoming products will take the safety legacy ahead accompanied by several safety features.

There isn’t much to differentiate the Tata Buzzard and Harrier till the rear doors and the two SUVs even share the same wheelbase. However, the Buzzard has a 62mm longer rear overhang and a more upright tail to accommodate the third row of seats. Roof rails and a larger rear quarter glass do help give the Buzzard an identity of its own. Tata has included a one touch flip and fold mechanism for the second row seats to allow easy access to the third row. However, having sat in the Buzzard at the Geneva motor show, we can report that access to the last row isn’t convenient and space at the back is very limited too. Dedicated air-con vents and separate blower controls have been included. The rest of the Tata Buzzard’s interior is identical to the Harrier’s.

Tata may also throw in some premium touches like Dual-zone automatic climate control, wood-finished dashboard, leather upholstery and chrome surrounded AC vents. While getting accustomed in the third row will also be easy as there will be a large quarter glass which will let in a lot of light. The infotainment system will be updated with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System as the competitors gets these features. Tata will continue to offer the 10 speaker setup from Harman and a subwoofer. Safety features will offer up to six airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist. It may also feature the Harrier’s clever ESP controls.
The Buzzard will share its Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine with the Harrier but with power upped to around 170hp. A 6-speed manual gearbox will be standard-fit and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox will also be an option. Like the Harrier, the Buzzard will be offered in front-wheel-drive form only. Expect Tata Buzzard prices to be in the range of Rs 50-60 lakhs. When launched, the Buzzard will rival the Mahindra XUV500 and MG Hector.
