Yamaha MT-15 : Top 5 Things To Know
Yamaha MT 15 is one of the most anticipated 150 cc motorcycle from the stable of Yamaha Motorcycles. The Nepalese-spec Yamaha MT 15 is the youngest sibling out of the lot (Yamaha MT Series) and is a naked street-fighter version of the fully faired sports bike, Yamaha R15 V3.0. The motorcycle has already debuted in Thailand at the Thai Motor Expo and it is expected to hit the Nepalese market real soon. The Nepalese-spec Yamaha MT 15 2019 will compete with Bajaj Pulsar NS 200, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and KTM 125 Duke.
Yamaha - the Japanese motorcycles manufacturer started the production of MT series back in 2005. Here, MT stands for - 'Master of Torque'. MT series is basically a culmination of wild designs and raw torque. The series comprises various types of motorcycles like - Roadsters, Sports Tourers and Naked Street Fighters. The motorcycles of this particular series were powered by different types of engines as well, like - Single Cylinders, Twin Cylinders, Parallel Twins, In-line 3, In-line 4 and V-Twin. MT series bikes are also known to be equipped with top-class features like ride-by-wire, slipper clutch, ABS, Multi-Mode Traction Control, superior Monocross Suspensions, LED lightings and all-digital LCD instrument panel. Keeping in mind the need of the hour, Yamaha Motorcycles is prepping up to launch the baby MT 15 in April 2019. The Japanese brand has not dropped any official details about the bike, however, here are the top 5 things that you need to know about the upcoming Yamaha MT-15.
As mentioned earlier, the India-spec Yamaha MT 15 is a Yamaha R15 V3.0 minus the fairings. However, Yamaha MT 15 takes styling cues from its bigger sibling the Yamaha MT-09. Sharp and chiselled tank design with extending tank shrouds, Bug-inspired twin headlamps, docked tail lights and a clearly visible frame where the engine has been placed, provides the MT-15 with characteristics and soul of a pure-bred naked street fighter. The Yamaha MT 15 headlights make the bike look more aggressive and has already become the talk of the town. This one is a looker for sure, grabbing eyeballs of the bystanders - a true trait of Yamaha MT series.
Yamaha MT 15 will be powered by a 155cc single cylinder, liquid cooled engine. The mill is expected to churn out 19.30 hp at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. The fuel-injected engine is derived from the ongoing Yamaha R15 V3.0 which means that it will come with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) and will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The numbers will be quite impressive for a 150cc engine, which is going to make it one of the most powerful motorcycles in the segment.
Yamaha is known for loading its motorcycles with a lot of features, some of them being segmented firsts as well. The Yamaha MT 15 features will include a slip-assist clutch, twin LED headlamps, dual channel ABS, alloy wheels, LED tail light, and all digital instrument panel. The motorcycle launched in Thailand sports a USD (Upside Down) front forks but, we expect the Nepalese-spec model to give it a miss and operate on telescopic forks to contain the pricing of the bike.
Being a naked street fighter, the motorcycle's riding position will be on the aggressive side. But the Yamaha MT 15 spy shots reveal that it will sport a flat handlebar making the riding-triangle a bit upright. Braking duties will be carried by a single 282mm disc at the front and a single 220mm disc at the back. There's no word on the name of the rubber but we are quite sure that the bike will be equipped with meaty ones.
Yamaha MT 15 2019 price in Nepal could be priced well over Rs 5 lakhs in the Nepali market. We are not completely sure about the pricing in Nepal yet. The Japanese brand is totally aware of the competition it will be up against, like Pulsar NS 200, Apache RTR 200 4V and KTM 125 Duke and would expect the MT-15 to drive sales numbers.
