Yamaha is expected to launch a new generation of the R15 in the Nepalese market very soon. Contrary to speculations, it's not the R15 V4, but the performance version of the existing bike which is known as the R15 and a variant called the R15M. Yamaha R15M, previously known as R15 V4, is an upcoming variant of the R15 V3 sports bike. While the differences between them are unknown, it is possible that the M will feature cosmetic changes over the standard bike. As per the latest details available, Yamaha is expected to launch the R15M in the Nepalese market around Dashain and Tihar 2021.
Yamaha R15M variant will be using the same 155cc engine as that of standard R15 V3. The liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve motor on-board R15 is capable of generating 18.6 ps of max power at 10,000 rpm and 14.1 Nm of peak torque at 8,500 rpm. The engine will be paired with a 6-speed transmission via a slipper/assist clutch. The leaked image also revealed that the R15 will finally get a USD fork. R15 could possibly get a new Bluetooth connectivity enabled instrument panel similar to the Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid and the new FZ-X.
Yamaha R15M has been equipped with a range of advanced features. The bike features a new projector LED headlamp with LED daytime running lights that look similar to the R7 with the set of DRLs flank headlight units on either side. Braking will be handled by a twin front disc and a single rear disc setup. According to the approval document, the R15M measures 1,990 mm in length, 725 mm in width, 1,135 mm in height and its wheelbase is 1,325 mm. Yamaha R15M mileage is expected to be around 40 kmpl with a top speed of around 150 kmph.
Yamaha R15M is expected to come in 4 color options including Racing Blue, Tech Black, Metallic Red, and Monster Energy Edition. The new Yamaha R15M is expected to get a premium of around NRs. 40,000 to NRs. 50,000 in comparison to the R15 V3. The R15M is expected to launch in Nepal around the festive season this year. It's easy to see the R15M will continue to be as popular as ever, and may not have any real competition.
