For over a century, Norton Motorcycles has been synonymous with British engineering excellence and the thrill of the open road. TVS acquired Norton Motorcycles back in 2020 and has been diligently working ever since to rejuvenate the iconic British brand. TVS bought the company for a modest £16 million and has since invested an additional £113 million. Starting next year, we'll begin to see the results of this significant investment.
The announcement of six new bikes signals Norton’s ambitious strategy to blend cutting-edge technology with its timeless design philosophy. Each of these models promises to carry the essence of Norton while pushing the boundaries of what modern motorcycles can offer. The upcoming lineup is expected to feature a blend of advanced technology and timeless design.
Norton plans to release six new motorcycles over the next three years, starting with the first model debuting in 2025, which will also be available in Nepal shortly after its global launch. These new bikes will be different from the 650cc Atlas and Nomad models shown in 2018. We still have to wait to see which models will be available in the Nepalese market. Norton offers a diverse range of motorcycles on the international stage.
Norton currently offers models like the V4SV Superbike, Atlas 650, Commando 961, Superlight 650, Nomad 500, Ranger 500, and many others globally. Introducing these higher cc motorcycles to the Nepalese market will be challenging. However, Norton plans to introduce smaller-engine bikes suitable for Nepal. According to the company, all six upcoming bikes will be entirely new models. These bikes are expected to be more affordable compared to the current lineup.
In a recent interview, Sudarshan Venu, MD of TVS Motor, mentioned that there is much to anticipate from Norton in the upcoming years. While the company has been selling enhanced versions of existing products that predated the TVS acquisition, we are now nearing the launch of the first completely new products developed post-takeover. Venu also emphasized that the new Norton motorcycles will adhere to the company's philosophy of 'Design, Dynamism, and Detail.' Additionally, he affirmed that Norton will continue to maintain its status as a premium brand.
The upcoming Norton bikes are expected to be more affordable than the current expensive lineup, which suffered from high pricing and engineering issues predating TVS's acquisition. Despite no legal obligation, TVS addressed existing customer concerns and focused on quality improvements. The new models will maintain Norton's premium status under TVS's leadership, marking a significant expansion for the historic British brand.
