Maruti Suzuki - the automobile giant has announced that they will be commissioning a 5 MW Solar Plant at their Gurugram Facility to manufacture cars. The automaker already has an operational 1.3 MW Solar Power plant at their Manesar facility which was set up in 2014. The automaker has already laid the foundation of the solar power plant at the Gurugram facility and it is expected to get commissioned in FY 2019-20.
The solar power generated will be synchronized with the captive power plant and then it will be used for the internal energy needs of the Gurugram manufacturing facility. Maruti Suzuki will invest around Indian Rs 24 Crore and will offset over 5,390 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually for the next 25 years. The photovoltaic solar panels will be placed at the new car parking area at the Gurugram facility and will act as a carport for the cars parked.
Maruti Suzuki's Gurugram facility already has a Natural Gas-based captive power plant supported by grid power and the new solar power plant will increase the overall power generation. For the update, the brand depends on clean and renewable power sources which contribute a major share of the automaker's total energy use. In an official communication, the auto giant made it clear that the brand will positively contribute to the betterment of the environment by cutting down the carbon footprint. And they are committed to expand their environment care initiative in products, manufacturing processes and business operations.
This is what the we expects from the established automakers to pioneer such environment-friendly initiatives and setting examples for others. Maruti Suzuki also follows some important energy-saving initiative at its facilities like - installation of solar rooftop plants to provide LED street lighting at Rohtak R&D facility and Gurugram plant, reducing power losses by optimizing the number of transformers and its capacity at Gurugram plant and using energy-efficient LED lightings.
