Smart #3 Electric Crossover SUV: What to Expect from Its Upcoming Launch in Nepal

As the automotive world continues to evolve towards a more sustainable future, electric vehicles (EVs) are at the forefront of this transformation. Among the exciting new entrants to the EV market is the Smart #3 Electric Crossover SUV, which is set to make its debut in Nepal soon. CG Motors, the official distributor for Smart Automobile, is set to launch the new electric vehicle Smart #3 in Nepal shortly. This new EV promises to deliver a blend of innovative technology, stylish design, and impressive performance.


The Smart #3 is built on Geely's Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, which is the world’s first open-source platform designed to accommodate a diverse array of vehicle types. The #3, similar to other Smart models, is designed and engineered by Mercedes-Benz, with manufacturing taking place in China. The #3 is offered internationally in four distinct variants: Pro, Pro+, Premium, and Brabus. 


When it comes to performance, the Smart #3 doesn’t disappoint. It will be offered across three variants that are all powered by a 200 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) that generates a max power of 272 PS and a max torque of 343 Nm. The Pro variant has a 49 kWh LFP battery with a 325 km range and charges in about 7 hours with a 7.2 kW AC Charger. The Pro+ and Premium variants feature a 66 kWh LFP battery offering a 435 km range, charging in around 10 hours with a 7.2 kW AC Charger. All variants can charge 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes with a 150 kW DC Charger.


The Smart #3 is equipped with the latest in automotive technology and modern features. The smart #3 comes with LED headlights and slim strip drls, a panoramic glass roof, a 12.8-inch slidable central screen, a 9.0-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.25-inch head-up display in the premium variant. It also features a 13-speaker Beats sound system, Android Auto and Apple Carplay, a wireless phone charger, four USB ports, and dual-zone AC.


The Smart #3 Electric Crossover SUV prioritizes safety with an array of advanced features. It includes seven airbags for comprehensive protection, a 360-degree camera for enhanced visibility, and both front and rear sensors. The SUV also boasts a tyre pressure monitoring system, cornering brake control, and an active lane-keeping system. Additional safety features are a driver monitoring system, blind spot assist, lane change assist, and traffic sign information. The Smart #3 has achieved a 5-star rating from Euro NCAP, underscoring its commitment to safety.


The Smart #3 Electric Crossover SUV measures 4400 mm in length, 1844 mm in width, and 1566 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2750 mm. It offers a ground clearance of 160 mm. The kerb weight varies by variant, with the Pro model weighing 1780 kg, the Pro+ at 1810 kg, and the Premium at 1910 kg. Additionally, it features a boot space of 370 liters, which can be expanded to 1160 liters. All variants of the Smart #3 are capable of achieving a top speed of 180 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds.


The smart #3 price in Nepal is yet to be revealed. Details on pricing and variants for the Smart #3 Electric Crossover SUV will be available after the official launch. Neither the Smart #1 nor the #3 will be showcased at NADA 2024. According to company representatives, Smart vehicles will be introduced after the event, with the #1 and #3 models set to launch shortly thereafter.
