As the world gears up for an electrifying revolution in the automotive industry, Nepal is about to witness a groundbreaking moment with the debut of the Tata Punch Electric SUV in 2024. Sipradi Trading, the authorized distributor of Tata cars in Nepal is all set to launch the Tata Punch EV in Nepal by mid-2024 or late-2024. Fascinatingly, there's a possibility that the Tata Punch Electric SUV could be revealed at the NADA Auto Show 2024. It offers three trim levels (Smart, Adventure, and Empowered) and encompasses a total of 16 to 19 variants overall. However, only select variants will be introduced in Nepal.
Equipped with a powerful electric motor, the Tata Punch Electric SUV delivers a smooth and responsive driving experience. It comes with two liquid-cooled battery options: 25 kWh (Standard) and 35 kWh (Long Range). The base model features a 60 kW electric motor, delivering a maximum power of 81 PS and torque of 114 Nm. It offers a generous range of up to 315 km on a single charge. The Long Range version features a 90 kW electric motor, delivering 122.37 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque. It boasts an impressive maximum range of 421 km.
Moreover, the Punch EV supports both AC and DC charging, making it versatile in charging options. Utilizing DC fast charging, it can replenish its battery from 10% to 80% state of charge (SOC) in just 56 minutes. Charging the 25 kWh model from 10% to 100% state of charge (SOC) with a 7.5 kW fast charger takes approximately 3.6 hours. Meanwhile, the 35 kWh variant requires around 5 hours to charge from 10% to 100% SOC using the same charger. The Punch EV will utilize its newest electric vehicle platform Advanced Connected Tech-Intelligent Electric Vehicle (ACTI.EV). This innovative framework is structured in four layers – powertrain, chassis, electrical, and cloud architecture.
The design of the Tata Punch EV draws inspiration from the recently unveiled Tata Nexon. This electric SUV marks a first for Tata EVs with its front-facing charging port, cleverly positioned below the LED DRLs. These DRLs serve a dual purpose, also functioning as charging indicators. It comes equipped with a range of premium features, including LED projector headlamps, LED fog lamps, Y-shaped LED tail lights, a digital dashboard, a 5-inch digital cockpit, and a 5-inch Harman infotainment system. It also offers front-ventilated seats, 90-degree opening doors, a voice-assisted electric sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming IRVM, and more.
The Tata Punch Electric SUV sets a new standard for safety in the electric SUV segment. In terms of safety, it is equipped with 6 airbags, an antilock braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), 360-degree surround-view camera system, hill descent and hold control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, electronic stability program for enhanced control, secure ISOFIX anchors for child seats and many others. The new SUV scored a full 5-star rating in adult occupant safety and a 4-star rating in child occupant safety.
The Tata Punch Electric SUV measures 3857 mm in length, 1742 mm in width, and 1633 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2445 mm and a ground clearance of 190 mm. It has a kerb weight ranging from 1240 Kg to 1340 Kg and offers a spacious boot space of 366 Liters. The Standard variant achieves 0-100 km/h in 13.5 seconds, while the Long Range variant covers the same speed in just 9.5 seconds. It features front tyres sized at 185/70 R15 with disc brakes, while the rear tyres are 195/60 R16 with drum brakes for the standard variant and disc brakes for the long-range variant. It comes with McPherson Strut suspension in the front and Twist Beam With Coil Spring suspension in the rear.
The Tata Punch EV price in Nepal is still undetermined as it awaits an official announcement. The starting price of the Tata Punch Electric SUV is expected to range from NRs. 40 Lakhs to NRs. 42 Lakhs, positioning it slightly below the 2024 Tata Nexon EV in terms of pricing. The Punch Electric SUV offers three different driving modes: Eco, City, and Sport. It offers a wide range of colour options, including Empowered Oxide, Seaweed, Daytona Grey, Fearless Red, and Pristine White, each available in dual-toned variants. The Tata Punch Electric SUV offers an unbeatable combination of performance, design, and sustainability.
