What’s the 75% Renewal Penalty Discount About?

The Lumbini Province Government has rolled out a new policy offering a 75% waiver on penalties for vehicles that missed their renewal deadline. This scheme runs from Shrawan 1, 2082 (mid-July 2025) to Poush 30, 2082 (mid-January 2026).

If your vehicle registration has expired, this is your window to save money and get legal again.

Who Can Benefit From This Vehicle Renewal Waiver?

Anyone with a vehicle—bike, scooter, car, jeep, van, or EV registered in Lumbini Province and overdue for renewal qualifies.

You just need to:

  • Pay your full vehicle tax

  • Pay only 25% of the total penalty (the remaining 75% is waived)

No other conditions. No hidden fees.

Why Lumbini is Doing This

According to Transport Minister Prachanda Bikram Nyaupane, this scheme has two clear goals:

  1. Encourage vehicle owners to complete overdue renewals

  2. Reduce illegal and unsafe vehicles on the roads

Unrenewed vehicles often skip inspections and insurance, increasing accident risks. The waiver helps bring them back into the legal fold.

What Was Collected Last Year?

In the last fiscal year, Lumbini Province collected:

  • NPR 23.52 crore from vehicle and driver’s license renewals

  • That’s only about 60% of the expected revenue

The government knows there’s a big gap and this penalty waiver is meant to close it.
