Kathmandu – Holi, the festival of colors, took a chaotic turn this year as police detained 55 people for unruly behavior during the celebrations. Among those held were 52 men and 3 women, according to Deputy Superintendent Apealraj Bohara, spokesperson for the Kathmandu District Police.

The crackdown didn’t stop there. Police impounded  253 vehicles—230 two-wheelers and 23 four-wheelers—from Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur. The checks revealed that 49 individuals were under the influence of intoxicants, while 8 were caught with illegal substances.

So, what happens next? Police say they’ll decide whether to press charges or let them go after reviewing each case. By evening, 129 vehicles had already been released, including 116 two-wheelers and 13 four-wheelers.

This isn’t just about spoiling the fun. Holi is a time for joy, but it’s also a reminder to celebrate responsibly. Authorities are doubling down on keeping the streets safe, ensuring the festival doesn’t spiral into chaos.
