Mahindra has launched a more hardcore off-road variant of the Thar in South Africa. Called the Thar Adventure Series, the new variant gets various accessories that improve its off-road credentials. These include a new front bumper with auxiliary LED lamps from Bundu Gear. Mahindra claims the new bumper helps the Thar achieve a 44-degree approach angle. The bumper also houses brightly coloured two points and a bash bar to protect the grille from any impacts.

Other juicy bits include new multi-spoke alloy wheels shod with Hankook Dynapro all-terrain tyres. The standard variant features road-biased rubber and alloy wheels instead. Mahindra has also added a snorkel for improved water wading. And while the India-spec Thar gets a canvas roof as standard and a hardtop as an option, it’s the other way around with the Adventure Series. The Getec-sourced hardtop roof even has a removable design for some open top fun on the trails.

The Mahindra Thar Adventure Series is offered in three colours - Rocky Beige, DSAT Silver and Red Rage - and is powered by the same 2.5-litre CRDe diesel engine as the India-spec SUV. This motor produces 100PS of power and 247Nm of torque. Like the India-spec model, the Adventure Series gets a Borg Warner 4x4 system with a low-range gearbox. It must be noted that Mahindra offers plenty of bits offered with the Thar Adventure Series as official accessories in Nepal.

The Mahindra Thar Adventure Series is priced at around Rs 45 lakh but we are not exactly sure. While there is no information regarding the launch of the Thar Adventure Series in India, Mahindra has been testing the next generation Thar in India for quite some time now. The current-gen Thar will be phased out in 2020 due to its old school platform and a diesel engine that won’t be able to meet upcoming safety regulations and emission norms. The next-gen Thar is expected to be beefier and will be powered by an all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine that is currently being developed by Mahindra. The new engine will be BSVI compliant and is expected to be more powerful than the current 2.5-litre CRDe motor. In the interim, do you think Mahindra should launch the Adventure Series in Nepal?
